As promised, we’re back in your inbox with a weekend check-in! And below the paywall, Taylore re-locates and Christine’s shares her strategies for a perfect birthday.
Part I: Frivolities

The Perfume: The weather can’t decide whether it wants to be summer or fall, so I’ve been in my transitional scent game. Yesterday, it was Arielle Shoshana Sunday. The notes, per the brand, are matcha tea, rice milk, cinnamon, mate absolute, cardamom, coconut, amber, sandalwood, and vanilla.” The vibe is eating matcha ice cream while listening to Ella Fitzgerald. A cashmere sweater in scent form.
The Poem: I just found this on my Facebook feed and love it. “Piece A Shit” by Sam Pink.
The Project: I go to my favorite farmstand every Thursday, after morning meditation at a garden center (lol what is my life). This past time, they had beef heart, which I’ve never cooked but like the idea of trying. I also like that it was $6 a pound. So, I now have a beef heart in my fridge, and will maybe make for dinner this evening? Pending my summoning a recipe and some courage? Will let y’all know how it goes!

The Nostalgic: Coraline is back in theaters this weekend for its 15th anniversary, so my ass will in seated at the Regal on Monday. The book was one of my more formative childhood reads, and the screen adaption is brilliant on its own. The Stumptown a block from my apartment has also been pushing Coraline-themed coffees and merch for months, and I’m a weak woman.
The Necessary: A fat bundle of basil is a must-buy for us every week at the farmer’s market, so we finally just broke down and got a potted basil plant. She’s very happy in the kitchen window next to the toaster. Another recent investment we made for the house: a heartier coffee table with a chic glass window to mount coffee table books for display. I’ve come into quite a few over the years, almost none of which are aesthetically cohesive. If you’ve got a curated stack in your place you’re proud of, drop it in the comments or tag us on IG.
